Plans for next year’s Veloce are already underway, and we now have a date – Wednesday 13th September at Silverstone.
Taking an existing event to a new venue always throws up challenges, and having been at Goodwood since we started the event in 2017, our main problem this year was how to retain the event’s all-important intimacy in Silverstone’s vast new wing.
The team at Silverstone were brilliant and with some creativity and the support of our fantastic sponsors, which this year included newcomers Collecting Cars and SNG Barratt, the event was widely hailed as the best yet. Adding to the spectacle of some truly iconic cars, from the first-ever works Le Mans Bentley through to a Bugatti Veyron, was Minardi boss Paul Stoddart’s F1 2-seaters. These cars can been seen at F1 Grand Prix around the world, taking VIPs and journalists for demonstration laps ahead of the main event, but to have them with us at Veloce was truly spectacular.
Damon Hill was first out, taking a brave and generous auction-winner for an unforgettable 3 laps (yes, that’s plenty). Ex-Minardi and Jordan driver, and now one of the 2-seater’s regular pilots Szolt Baumgartner, took over driving duties to give 5 other passengers a taste of what a seriously fast car feel like. This year’s driver line-up included Derek Bell, Ross Brawn, Jonathan Palmer, Richard Attwood and a host of stars from the Goodwood Revival.
The event raised just short of £200,000 for our charities, bringing the total raised since we started the Veloce in 2017 to £700,000. Next year’s event will be at Silverstone on Wednesday 13th September. You can find out more by visiting the Veloce website – www.veloce-events.com
